I am a second generation general contractor who grew up in an off grid home in the hills of Mendocino County, CA.  I have been on and around construction projects my entire life and enjoy the process of designing and creating interesting and functional spaces.  I started Peak Design Works in 2008 after getting a degree in Architecture from UC Berkeley in order to address the design, drafting and permitting needs of contractors in my area.  Since then, I have worked with building departments to obtain permits and oversee construction of residential projects in San Francisco, Sonoma, Mendocino, Shasta, Placer and Nevada Counties.

Living in an off grid home gave me an experiential understanding of what the challenges are as well as what the effective strategies are for designing energy efficient and sustainable homes.  Sustainable design and environmental consciousness are important aspects I incorporate into my work.  Not all projects have the budget to be fully off the grid or Net-Zero (energy produced=energy used) but there are many opportunities to lower a buildings environmental footprint.  Often times it can be as simple as putting windows in the correct locations for passive solar heating or using higher quality materials to increase the lifespan and durability of a building.

My focus with Peak Design Works is on creating a high quality, functional and durable finished product.  By taking a project from the initial design phase through to completion I am able to create and implement a design that is cohesive, functional and addresses the needs of the client.  This translates into creating equity as well as a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing residence.

Though I am a student of contemporary design philosophies I have a strong appreciation for the American Craftsman movement of the 1920s (Greene and Greene, Frank Lloyd Wright, Bernard Maybeck, Julia Morgan).  The ideas of truthfully expressing materials combined with the bold lines of contemporary architecture combine in an aesthetic often referred to as Mountain Modern which is what many of my designs would be considered.

To maintain a high level of quality control on each project I do not take on many at the simultaneously.

After 40 years of working with various contractors, never have I seen the complete package until Dylan came along.

A true professional, works well with spouses, inspectors, laborers and other contractors. Great architect and contractor in all phases.  Dylan has all the best  tools and knows how to use them.  Wise beyond his years.

Hire him before someone else does, he has my family's hearty  endorsement.

I called in Peak Design Works to help get my home remodel to the finish line. Dylan drafted up plans to turn my garage/out-building into a completely separate living space, quickly and masterfully designed and fabricated custom wood floor pieces for my kitchen remodel and came up with an elegant and creative solution to tie my bathroom tile into the surrounding drywall. I really couldn't have pulled it off without him.

Not only is Dylan capable as a contractor, but he has the attention to detail and eye of a designer as well.  Every house he has built is beautiful and unique, and he is one of the hardest workers I know.  In short, Dylan rocks!
